  1.     A Project/Event Planner               (INSTALL.TXT - December 12, 1994)

  3.     As a precautionary measure, make a backup of any previously installed
  4.     versions and associated files before proceeding with this installation.
  5.     Also, review the RELEASE.TXT file for any last minute notes that may
  6.     affect the installation procedure.

  8.     The directions included in this document are for Windows 3.1 and
  9.     are categorized into the following sections:

  11.         Section 1.  Standard Installation with INSTALL Utility
  12.         Section 2.  Manual Installation - Full Install
  13.         Section 3.  Manual Installation - Program Only
  14.         Section 4.  Manual Installation - Samples Only

  17.         Section 1.  Standard Installation with INSTALL Utility

  19.     1.  Place the distribution diskette into the appropriate drive.  If you
  20.         do not have a distribution diskette and have down-loaded a
  21.         compressed file, uncompress the file and place all of the
  22.         distributed files into one disk directory.

  24.     2.  From the Windows Program Manager or File Manager, select the Run
  25.         option in the File menu.  In response to the "Command Line:"
  26.         prompt, enter the location of the INSTALL utility.  For
  27.         example if the distribution is located in drive A:, enter the
  28.         following:
  29.                     A:\APLANR\INSTALL
  30.  
  31.     3.  Follow the directions given by the INSTALL utility.  Once the
  32.         installation starts, it should complete in less than a minute.

  35.         Section 2.  Manual Installation - Full Install
  36.     =======================================================================
  37.     1.  Create a directory where you want APLANR to reside in.  You may use
  38.         the Windows File Manager or DOS.
  39.  
  40.     2.  Copy all the program files from the diskette to the new directory.
  41.         You may use the Windows File Manager or DOS.
  42.         
  43.         For example if your files reside in A: and you want to install
  44.         them into C:\APLANR.  In DOS type:
  45.  
  46.             MD  C:\APLANR
  47.             COPY  A:\APLANR\*.*  C:\APLANR
  48.  
  49.     3.  You may now execute the program named "APLANR.EXE" directly with
  50.         the Windows File Manager.
  51.  
  52.         If you want to set up an icon in a program group to execute
  53.         APLANR.EXE, refer to the "Working with Program Items" section
  54.         in the Program Manager chapter of the Windows User's Guide.

  56.         Using the same example as above, you enter the following in the
  57.         "Program Item Properties" dialog box:
  58.             Description:        APLANR
  59.             Command Line:       C:\APLANR\APLANR.EXE
  60.             Working Directory:  C:\APLANR

  63.         Section 3.  Manual Installation - Program Only

  65.     You do not have to copy all of the files to your disk, but the required
  66.     files are "APLANR.EXE" and "APLANR.HLP".  These are the program
  67.     executable and help files respectively.

  69.     Use the DOS copy command or the Windows File Manager to replace the old
  70.     APLANR.EXE (program executable) and APLANR.HLP (program help file) with
  71.     the new versions from the distribution diskette.  The new versions use
  72.     the same filenames.  For example if your old files reside in
  73.     "c:\aplanr", sample commands to copy the files are:

  75.         COPY  A:\APLANR\APLANR.EXE  C:\APLANR
  76.         COPY  A:\APLANR\APLANR.HLP  C:\APLANR

  79.         Section 4.  Manual Installation - Samples Only

  81.     To install the sample data, you just need to copy the sample files.
  82.     The sample files all start with the letters "PV".
  83.     
  84.     For example if "C:\APLANR" holds the executable programs, you could
  85.     create a directory "C:\APLANR\SAMPLES".  A sample command to copy all
  86.     the sample data from a diskette in drive A is given below:

  88.                 COPY  A:\APLANR\PV*.*  C:\APLANR\SAMPLES
  89.             
  90.     When you run the program, use the "Directories" option of the "Options"
  91.     menu to tell the program to use this directory to access the sample
  92.     data.

  94.     ***DO NOT*** copy the sample plans of the new version into the
  95.     same directory as your current plan files, because the sample
  96.     plan files will over-write yours.
